Method
Bone Broth is a nutritious liquid made from simmering marrow-rich animal bones (beef, chicken, turkey, pork) in water for a few hours. Add vegetables like celery, carrots, and onions, fresh herbs, and garlic for extra flavour.
1. Add all your ingredients to a pot, and bring to a boil, reduce the temperature, and simmer. Bones, garlic, onions, and spices are good additions to the pot, along with water and vinegar.
2. Simmer your bones, water, and other ingredients for several hours anything from a couple of hours up to 6 hours if you wish.
3. Add any other vegetables, such as carrots or celery, when you have about 30 minutes to an hour left of cooking. Otherwise, your broth will taste like overcooked vegetables.
4. Strain the broth and discard the leftover bones and veggies, transfer into airtight jars.
5. Store in the fridge for up to 1 week. This broth can make a pleasant drink on its own or added to other dishes or as a basic for soups and sauces.
Handy tip: Add a small amount of apple cider vinegar to help break down the animal proteins and connective tissues. This helps provide a broth higher in protein and collagen as a result.
Enjoy!
